a light in the darkness
2017 - Writer, director, cinematographer, editor, composer for “A Light in the Darkness”, short film. Realised with the collaboration of the students, within a film class that I taught at Rapisardi Elementary School (Palermo, Italy). It tells the stories of three children and their different fears that will intertwine to reach a common conclusion.
The short film was made in a mixed techinque of animation and film, so that when the three main characters started narrating a story, roughly animated sequence would represent their fantasies.
BACKSTAGE
The challenge of the project was shooting a 10 minutes short film with a crew of 25 10-years old children for all the roles of the production. The students, putting into practise what learnt in the 50 hours course about film-making, were acting as 1s AD, script supervisor, boom operator, on-set mixer, gaffer, key grip, grips etc. with professional equipment, under my guidance.
MUSIC
I composed an orchestral score for the short film trying to capture the simplicity of children’s imaginary stories, set in a space and in an alternative marvellous world.
